Isabel’s spring first birthday party was a wonderful chance to style my first proper kiddy party! Isabel’s dad has a love for horses so no better venue than Horseshoe Barn in Sidcup, Kent. The venue location is so idyllic and we even had sally the pony to meet and greet our guests! The venue is so modern, clean and oh my, the toilets are big and clean! The venue also helped to shape the rest of the party, with its raw brick walls, high ceilings and lots of sunlight. I wanted to create Cocospring vibe using feelings of neon and pastel colours, explosion of flowers, citrus and coconut. I wanted to create cheerful! You can read more about how I got to the the theme Cocospring here.
FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY INVITATIONS
I began by contacting Dami from Lish & Lou Paperie who designed all of the printables including the invitation, food tent cards, vellum placemats, by hand drawing all of the graphics and digitalising the bunnies for the invitation. They came out super amazing.
One thing I wanted was party wands. Using Poundstore tissue paper and ribbons from tiger stores uk, I stripped and glued them to long lolly sticks. They were so much fun to see the kids use them to sing happy birthday to Isabel. Pound land is a great place to get some first birthday items and gifts!
The favours were a mish mash of large glitter balls, circus balls, flower pens, watercoloring pencils, all to reflect a little something of Isabel. Isabel loves glitter, she love balls, she is surrounded by flowers at home and is cray cray over pencils! I threw in swirly straws and raisins and it was good to go. These were put in bunny bags by Meri Meri, and for the older kids, plain paper bags with bows and decorative straw.
I also had a drinks table set up with Taylor’s Rose and Lemonade Herbal tea; water garnished with mint and cucumber; and Cocospring Mocktail! Cocospring mocktail is grapefruit juice and guava nectar mixed with lime juice and lemonade. It was garnished with grapefruit segments, lime slices and pretty edible flowers from Greens of Devon.
We set up a kids banquet table with green runners from Tiger Stores UK, and cute jam jar floral arrangements from a very talented florist, Ali from Bloomologie. She was ever so kind to whip this all up last minute and really interpreted my wild spring theme. Unfortunately, we were unable to use custom made balloons from Luft Balloons due to processing backlog from Customs (sigh!), so used cheap store balloons from Asda to line the table. To fit with the wonderful colourful theme, we had rainbow plates and cutlery set out placed on beautiful vellum placemats and a mini bunny folded tissue. The kiddies were met with a little treat from BKD London…a bunny cookie in the style of the invitation!
DESSERT AND FOOD TABLE
Our baker friend, Mary, baked the most delicious naked cake. It was layers of carrot, lime and coconut and decorated with lots of edible flowers, macaroons. It was a floral explosion and ever so pretty. I wanted the cake to stand out so I placed it on a red and clear glass cake stand on top of a crate above the rest of the food.
Oh my, you need to taste these marshmallows from La Maison Guimauve. Divine, flavoursome, pretty and definitely not your standard haribo! Added to that was brown rock candies, donuts on sticks, and cucumber and blueberries in pots. I got two bunny plates from TKMaxx to put sandwiches and Fish pie for the kiddies. I made nutella sandwiches cut into bunny shapes and egg sandwiches. I made edible glitter wands from breadstick and chocolate. They went in a flash. I also made floral pink chocolate. Of course we made Ella Kitchen Foods and Hipps Organic Foods available too!
I made a delicious cous cous salad and a blooming crostini station. It was such a hit! Towards the end of the party, we put out Jellof Rice, chicken and fish for our party friends to take home. I was pleased that the food went down well and there was something for everyone.
Isabel loves baby sensory and no better way to celebrate her first birthday than having a baby sensory party! It catered for babies from 6 months to 99 year old babies! Yes, even adults had fun. Rebecca and Lindsey from Baby Sensory themed the party to fit in with the spring theme and it really complimented the party!
I arranged a little escapism for parents, a mini back massage from a lovely masseur. That was a real treat!
We couldn’t end the party without pass the parcel which had goodies hidden in different layers but the main prize was Isabel’s favourite book, ‘Pass it On’ which is joyful and uplifting picture book about finding happiness in the smallest of things. The mama of the winner read the story, which was so heart warming. You can get your copy from Foyles or Amazon.
Isabel’s first birthday party was so much fun and know that the cute pictures taken by Kgmotso will always bring a smile to our faces.
